The history of poker is a matter of debate. It closely resembles a Persian game called nas. It is quite possible that it may have been taught to French settlers in New Orleans by Persian sailors. The English game brag clearly descended from brelan and incorporated bluffing. It is quite possible that earlier games influenced the development of poker as it exists now. Once the full 52-card English deck was used, and the flush was introduced. During the American Civil War there were many additions made, including draw poker and stud poker (the five-card variant). Further American developments like the wild card (around 1875), lowball and split-pot poker (around 1900), and community card poker games (around 1925). The spread of the game to other countries, particularly Asia, is often attributed to the U.S. military.

Pai Gow poker (or Double-hand poker) is an Americanized version of the Chinese Pai Gow. The US game is played with playing cards using poker hand rankings, while Pai Gow is played with Chinese dominoes. The games of Pai Gow poker was co-created by Sam Torosian and Fred Wolf. The games inventor, Fred Wolf was the also the casino manager of the Commerce Casino in the early 1980's. Pachinko a gaming device used for amusement and prizes and is related to pinball machines. Although originally strictly mechanical, modern Pachinko Machines are a cross between a pinball machine and a video slot machine. Pachinko is said to have been invented sometime after World War II in Nagoya, though the date is sometimes questioned. The machines are widespread in Japan in establishments called "pachinko parlours", which also often feature a small number of slot machines.
